So, this journal is fairly dead (obviously, looking at the last time I updated it...). I'm debating whether or not to delete it, because on the one hand, lol my teenage angst, but on the other hand, oh god, my teenage angst.

Anyway, between work and my masters I don't have time for livejournal any more, but I'm around on facebook for anyone who's interested!

You know what I love? Pay cheques. I love them a lot. Money is my friend.

I also love shopping with my money. Like today. I'm going in to town. To spend money. The money which, in turn, comes from my pay cheques.

The world is indeed a beautiful place.

My hair is short again, which makes me a happy panda. I celebrated this happy fact by sunbathing on Sunday, which resulted in my back turning bright red and being bloody sore. At least this way I know that summer's finally come, I guess...

Went into town on Monday to buy a pair of three-quarter pants. Ended up buying pretty much everything except a pair of three-quarter pants. Met up with Tracey for lunch, then Merryn, Elaine and KD to go see the carol service, which was totally up to scratch. I love Christmas Carols... Merryn and I sang all the descant parts, which reminded me how long it's been since I sang properly - I squeaked all over the place. I was impressed by the fact that I could remember them all, though, and the alto harmonies besides. Yay me! Everyone knows it wouldn't be a proper Christmas without singing "O come o come Emmanuel", anyway...

Working at an after-school care today and tomorrow (and yeterday, actually.) Have I mentioned how much I hate kids? Yeah, I know I have. Just refer to that and imagine how much fun I'm having.

10 days till I leave for South Africa. I'm starting to get really excited now - my first Christmas ever with my extended family. "Yay" does not even begin to describe how happy I'm feeling!

Must commit new phrases to vocab.

Instead of "awesome", will say "tophat".

Instead of "you suck" will say "fuck you and the horse you rode in on".

Also - and here's the important part - in my next life will be born as something that doesn't have ovaries. Possibly a male. Or a tree.

And, of course, I've been working mornings to earn a little cash, all of which has now been spent on the camera I just bought. Still, I needed a camera, so my severe lack of money will just have to be ignored for now.

So, I watched National Anthem last night. It was pretty good, I guess, but the real amusement came from the guys, who were texting in obscene messages to see if they would come up on screen. None of them did, but we did have the pleasure of seeing the Best Text Ever:

"I WANT TO SEE DOMINIC BOWDEN DANCE! DANCE MONKEY DANCE!"

Then we got kicked out of the Sky room by the BPs, so Tash and I went to get icecream. Then she went out and I studied until about 2. Scintillating.

What I did on my weekend [May. 16th, 2004|01:48 pm]
Hels
[Current Mood |happyhappy]

Friday: After my all-nighter I had a pretty cruisy day. Fell asleep in economics, which I could hardly blame myself for, because the lecturer is really boring. The only reason I turned up to the lecture at all is because I wanted to see the movie that we were meant to be watching - so, of course, the video equipment was broken.

Friday night was Salmond Idol, which I entered and immediately wished I hadn't... although apparently I sounded OK. So that's all right. I sang the SmashMouth version of I'm a believer, which was really fun. It wasn't my first choice - I really wanted to sing Respect, but someone else sang it first. (I would have done it better than her, too...)

I got really homesick straight after singing and went to my room, fell asleep on the floor, and went back to the karaoke. But that stage everyone was really pissed, and still singing, so that was fun. Lloyd and Luke and me sat on a sofa on top of the pool table, and Lloyd threw stuff at people and Luke drank stolen beer. Awesome. Then I watched the ends of Goldmember and Broken arrow, which were an... interesting ending to the evening.

Saturday: Slept till eleven, then decided to walk to the supermarket barefoot. It stops hurting once they've gone numb, honestly. Marketing all afternoon.

Last night was the capping show! It was fucking hilarious. It's got a reputation for being really crass and un-PC, but it was in such goos fun I didn't care about the mass stereotypes. I can't possibly go through all my favourite bits because there were so many of them, but I loved the terrible punsCollapse )

Then, of course, there was Peter and Pierre the really camp guys in denial about their sexuality, criminal mastermind Brash Donald who uses babies to keep his fire going, James Blonde who didn't have a fucking clue what the hell was going on but somehow managed to save the day anyway.

...so yeah. Also awesome. And after the capping show I went to McDonalds and bought a Happy Meal that comes with a jewellry box that lights up!!! How awesome is that?!

Sunday: Marketing. Pretty exciting, huh? Actually, lunch was entertaining because Luke kept with entertained with stories of what happened last night, including him drinking vodka straight and feeling really bad about it this morning.

Now - back to marketing. Tasty.

a. you aren't wearing pajamas

it's not going to be a good day. That's all I'm sayin'.

Also also also also also -

I'm going to SOUTH AFRICA.

I'll be away for both Christmas and my birthday, but I think a trip halfways around the wrld is possibly the bestbestbestbest present ever. We're going to a Safari Park for four days, spending Christmas with family in Joburg, New Years in Durban with other family, and my birthday in Cape Town, possibly with other other family.

I'm just so incredibly excited. I haven't seen my cousins since I was four - that's fourteen years, just in case you'd forgotten. And I've never met my step-cousins. And I absolutely adore Liz and Neil, one of my uncles and his wife. I'm not quite so hot about my grandparents - but still. SOUTH AFRICA.

It's just so unbelievable I can hardly keep myself from dancing around in joy.

OK, I can't keep myself from dancing around in joy.

I'm so happy!

Also also, am going to be having the best time in Auckland. Friday to Monday at Waiheke, Tuesday to Thursday at Tracey's (hopefully...) and then Friday in Hamilton, and then back again Saturday morning (just in time to start cramming for my marketing test).

Obviously, will not have time to see everyone while I'm up in Auckland. Hopefully I can convince Elaine to come into town on Saturday, or something, as I really really really want to see her. I miss her logic.

Like, on Sunday Merryn and I went to the museum (for the second time, because we love it a lot) and I finally found the mummy, so a texted Elaine, saying that I was with a mummy but I couldn't read the hieroglyphs as I'm not taking Hieroglyphs 101.

To which she replied: "I think u should move away frm there then. THERE MITE B A TRAP! Or sumthing mite just eat u up or da mummy come back 2 life 2 haunt u..." Elaine logic is the best. She also suggested that, instead of climbing through the garden to get to Gardies, I just teleport...

***

You know, it's so weird. I don't think I've ever really been homesick in my life - I mean, I don't miss my parents, I don't miss Auckland, I don't even really miss my friends that much (well, mostly just Trcaey and Elaine, because we always have such intelligent and/or crazy conversations, and I'm yet to find any one else quite the same). Where was I? Oh yeah. I feel like I'm missing a gene, or something. Or just an emotion. But I've never been able to feel sad about someone not being around.

I mean, the only thing I really feel is bad - like, when someone moves away and they go on about how much they miss me, or wish they could see me, and I'm always like, "Yeah, it'd be great to see you again - but life goes on, y'know?"

Maybe I'm just to forward facing. I'm no good at holding grudges, either. I mean, someone can really piss me off, make me so angry that I swear that I don't ever want to be around them again - and then I won't remember about it until they upset me again.

On the other hand, I tend to make snap judgements about people after only a couple of seconds. "You're worth knowing - you're not worth knowing - you're obviously a complete arsehole". I'd like to think that generally I'm pretty accurate, but by instantly deciding you don't like someone you miss out on finding out what kind of person they really are.

...and that's enough D&M for today.

Note to self: Next time W decides he's going to stare at you in all the ad breaks, just stare back at him. Do not listen to O when she tells you to throw vegetables at him.

***

I was talking to a guy from Hamilton last night. He was all, "Auckland's so big, yo!" And I was like, "Bitch, puh-lease! Hamilton puts the izzle in shizzle!" And then he was all, "A-men, sistah!"

Well, not really. I think if I held a conversation like that I'd have to shoot myself. But we did discuss the merits of going to single-sex school, and the comparative sizes of Auckland and Hamilton :)

Which Buffy Girl Are You? Find out @ She's Crafty
So, apparently am a contradiction. Hmmmm.

HELEN is watching TELEVISION with O and W when an ADVERTISEMENT comes on for EXTREME MAKEOVERS. Apparently, the STAR of the show for THIS WEEK has NO CHIN. HELEN finds this absolutely HILARIOUS and goes off into HYSTERICS. Every time she tries to STOP laughing, W starts laughing which makes HELEN laugh EVEN HARDER. EVENTUALLY, O wonders whether HELEN has taken her MEDICATION, which makes HELEN remember she has NOT. HELEN thus manages to CONTROL her HYSTERIA.

BEFORE THIS, while standing OUSTIDE in the FREEZING COLD RAIN, ONE OF THE BOYS in HELEN'S HALL wonders why, in TITANIC, ROSE didn't keep JACK'S BODY in order to EAT IT at some LATER DATE, leading into a DISCUSSION on how one would eat a FROZEN BODY anyhow. During the conversation, SOMEONE refers to JACK'S FROZEN BODY as KAI MOANA, since it comes from the SEA. HELEN become HYSTERICAL and does't stop laughing for a GOOD FIFTEEN MINUTES.

HELEN OBVIOUSLY needs to CUT DOWN the SUGAR in her DIETARY INTAKE. No more SLUSHIES for HER.

Bibs, who is a new friend of Lem's and mine, celebrated her 19th on Saturday night. We went out for dinner to a Korean restaurant where I had the best meal I've had since Dad came down to drop some of my stuff off - which must have been almost a month ago...

Preceding Saturday night was, rather obviously, Saturday afternoon and morning, during which I slept and went to the bank. Rather exciting, really.

Sunday was also pretty average, although I joined a heap of people, possibly all guys, in watch a Western called Tombstone. None of the actors were especially hot, but there was quite a few nice action shots, and the girl that I was hoping would die, died. According to one of the guys I was sitting with, cheering on someone's death is not a nice thing to do. Will totally make a note of that for future occassions. Possibly.

Lem and Duaa and I bought Bibs a carebear for her birthday, which was actually today. For some reason we thought it was appropriate. Oh, and must remeber that it's Mell's birthday tomorrow... I've sent her a card already, but I thought a text might be kinda nice as well.

I got a B+ for my legal opinion that I thought was absolutely crap, which I thought was rather an achievement. My tutor says I have to do more alternative thinking. Maybe I should warn him just how alternative my thinking is.

My finance group got 10/10 for our latest assignment. Bibs and I agree that this was obviously because of the the half-page sized smily face we added to it at the last moment.

We're having an 'M' themed party. It might seem like a good idea, but do you want to know the total amount of things I can come up with beginning with M?

Four. That's how many. And three of the ideas are distinctly unoriginal. So I'm dressing all in white and holding a sign that says "The Freshmaker".

That's right. I'm going as Mentos.

Southlanders still crazy.

After three hours sleep and half a pint of cider much thought, have come to the conclusion that all the Southlanders in my hall are crazy.

The next step in this sleepless prattle investigation will be to confirm if this is true of all Southlanders, or merely the ones in my hall.

If I find substantial proof that all Southlanders are suffering from mental instability crazy, I will then procede to deduce whether it's from all the inbreeding why.

...My brother invited me to his flat warming. Apparently, he's not that embarassed to be seen with me in public. Of course, he did also ask me to, um, "borrow" a couple of cartons of milk from my res, but I was going to do that anyway.

He's pretty funny on the phone.

"Hey, can you bring over some of the milk from your fridge?"
"Yup, sure. What colour?"
"Blue. Oh, Ian [his flatmate] wants you to bring some green over as well."
"OK, no worries."
"If they don't have any in your comm, just go to one of the other comms. Oh, and can you bring the newspaper when you come?"
"...um..."
"And if you get chocolate milk on Friday, can you bring that?"
"Usually chocolate is the first to go. I could bring some lime, though."
"Lime's fine. Just bring anything that's free..."

I love my brother.
