So, I guy just ran through my Laws lecture, dressed completely in green and yelling "I'm the St Patrick's Day Leprechaun!" followed by five guys shouting "GET HIM!" followed by three guys holding a sign which read Happy St Patrick's Day and carrying Guinness branded glasses with green liquid inside.

I love Dunedin.

Dear Helen,

Now, I know that Finance is extremely, painfully boring, but unless I'm very much mistaken you need a 75% average to get into second year law and that means - hey, pay attention! - that means you need to do just as well on this assignment as you did on the last one.

It also means that you've got to try and work out what Nigel is going on about. Yes, I know that the twelve tables is beyond boring and that you're yet to work out what the fuck Common Law is, but in all sincerity, you're not going find out if you keep nodding off during his lectures.

Nice hair, by the way.

Your Conscience

I have flour in my hair. After walking through a stream/river for an hour (the day after walking up the steepest street in the world), this is not something I appreciate.

Especially as I have now washed it twice, but the flour just won't go away.

Now I have to go do reading for my three tutorials tomorrow. I haven't been to any tutorials before, and it's mildly daunting.

The toga party was wicked. Just for the sake of Lingy, I will break it down into several parts.

1. everyone who went wore togas. this included me, merryn and kristina. the togas were mostly made out of one big sheet, although the skankier girls wore several short sheets. merryn has photos, which i will steal off her at some point.

2. the new zealand band elemeno p played, and they rocked. for the australians unintiated among you, elemeno p are a, um, pop-rock group, for want of a better word. you should all download buy their song "verona".

3. it was very hot. even the brick walls had conensation on them.

so, um, yup. just letting you know that i'm still alive... and tonight i'm going to go see goodshirt. cos i'm cool.

now i have to go back to my hall in time for dinner.

It is cold. There was frost on the ground this morning and we hav a fire drill at 7am and I didn't put any shoes on before I went outside.

Last night I went to a party at my brother's flat. His friends are crazy.

Tonight I am going to a toga party. Yay.

etc etc etc. I'l write properly when I'm a bit more used to the uni computers...

rahien, I'll email you my address at some point :)

I think something wrong with me.

I'm watching NZ idol and enjoying it. I also watched The Osbournes with a straight face and have started following a real-life series thing, called That'll teach them.

I problem, I think, is that I'm not getting any real intellectual stimulation and as a reault I'm degenerating into some kind of cultural black hole like most of the people who I generally look down on.

Ahhh, three-day weekends.

Went to the Lantern Festival on Friday night, which was mostly good. There were one or two sour notes in the evening, but I'm not going to mention them here. Well, OK, I will mention the fact that we waited an hour to watch the dragon dancing only to find that they weren't going to perform that night, after all. Bah, humbug.

The lanterns were really pretty, though. I took Elaine's picture besides the monkey king lantern, and I absolutely loved the monkey lanterns that were clutching the trees. And the sheep lanterns, of course, but that's for granted. Oh, and the panda lanterns that were on the see-saw.

Also, I SHOOK THE PM'S HAND!!!!!one. I'm such a Helen Clarke fangirl.

I went back to Tracey's afterwards and we talked until 3am, or thereabouts, about whether there were any real differences between men and women other than the ones that society forced on us - her arguing that there weren't, me arguing that there were. I can't actually remember all of it, because my brain shuts down after midnight, but it was very interesting at the time. We got woken up at 7 by a plasterer o0

Then last night the two of us (armed with gluten-free slice and gluten-free cheese muffins) met up with Claire and Sophie to go watch PotC at the open-air cinema, which was absolutely brilliant. We rented blankets and snuggled up and laughed and gasped and did everything else in the right places.

Afterwards we drove back to my place for coffee and biscuits while Claire talked about guys - she's in the throws of another disastrous relationship. They didn't leave until 2am and then I collapsed into bed.

Just for the record, I've got eight scarves. That's right, eight. This includes two rugby supporters' scarves, three striped scarves, and a scarf I knitted when I was seven.

In case you're wondering why I'm not updating regularly at the moment, it's because I've got nothing to say. :)

I have, however, just uploaded a a few new icons. I especialy like those anime ones - the pictures are so much easier to work with than photos of people. Maybe it's because of the artwork, or maybe they're just more inspiring. I don't know, but I want to make some more ^_^.

I really like that one I did of Sailor Pluto... *admires it lovingly*

I just wanted to ask you guys a favour. Um, this is going to sound pretty harsh, but it's not meant like that. Do you mind if we don't see each other in Otago for a couple of weeks? It's just, I want to be able to make knew friends, and if I'm seeing my old friends a lot it will restrict my ability to do this. I'm going to say the same thing to Lem, when I next talk to her.

This might sound a little overboard to you, but everyone I've talked to who went down to Otago with good friends said it took them a lot longer than everyone else to settle in and that they found it a lot harder to make friends.

I saw Welcome to the Jungle, and damn me if it wasn't actually good. Not wonderful, but a hell of a lot better than could be expected. The actors could actually act, and although the plot was (mostly) pretty clichéd, the dialogue wasn't. There were some pretty funny parts, too - not the typical American physical humour, but actually what I'd describe as clever humour.

Also, last night I read Mister Monday by Gareth Nix. Totally amazing - original, intelligent, a little threatening. It's the first book in a series (which I've helpfully forgotten the name of) and I'm about to start reading the second book, Grim Tuesday.

Also, yay! for my new Eowyn icon.

Now I have to toddle off to convince Tracey to watch King Lear with me. She knows she wants to.

So, last night I had this dream that I was Eowyn, and I had to fight Shelob so Frodo could destroy the ring. He got to Mt Doom and threw away the ring without Gollum having to bite off his finger. The ring lost all its evilness, but didn't melt, so Frodo gave it to Gollum and we all realised that Gollum was actually quite a nice person.

I finally got my (belated) Birthday present from my brother. The readon it was belated was a story in itself, and was mostly not his fault. But anyway - guess what it was?

A Johnny Depp poster from Pirates of the Caribbean. He ad to order it in from the States, because you can't get them here. And- wow. My brother rocks. And it will go so nicely with the rest of my posters (Legolas looking pretty, a giant butt advertising the Rocky Horror Show, and a Finding Nemo poster which says "Fish are friends, not food.")

Mmm, Johnny Depp.

I love the theme for Rohan. It's sad and haunting and majestic and hopeful, all at the same time. And I always want to cry when I hear it...
